DayTone writes a wake-up song from what you tell it. This page explains what the app collects to do that, who processes it, how long it’s kept and what you can switch off.
Who we are
DayTone is made by PantaWorks LLC, a DBA of Munchy Snacks (“PantaWorks”, “we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described here. This policy applies together with our terms of use.
What DayTone collects
- An anonymous account id, created the first time you open the app.
- Your alarm settings: time, days, label, personality, genre, language and sound.
- Your wake-up profile: the goals and content boundaries you enter.
- A short calendar summary, only if you turn calendar signals on.
- The songs and lyrics made for you, and the feedback or reports you send about them.
- A push notification token, so we can tell your phone a song is ready.
- Subscription status, if you buy DayTone Plus (see Purchases and subscriptions).
- Usage events and basic device information (see Analytics and logs).
What it doesn’t collect
- No name, email address or phone number. Sign in with Apple is optional, asks Apple for no name or email, and only links your Apple ID to the same anonymous account.
- No payment card or billing details. Apple handles payment.
- No raw calendar events, notes, attendees or locations, and no health data.
- No advertising identifiers, no tracking across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t sell or share your data for advertising.
- No screen recordings of the app.
How your song is made
Ahead of an alarm, a short summary of what the song needs (goals, the alarm’s label, personality, genre, language and boundaries) is sent to DayTone’s servers on Google Cloud. Lyrics are drafted by Anthropic’s Claude and the music is generated by Google’s Lyria on Google Cloud Vertex AI. Those providers process the request to return your song, under terms that don’t let them use it to train their models. The finished song is stored on our servers and downloaded to your phone.
Purchases and subscriptions
DayTone Plus is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment and shares with us only what we need to provide Plus: which plan you bought, whether you’re in a free trial, renewal and expiry dates, and transaction ids. We never see your card details, name or Apple ID email.
Our subscription screens are shown with Superwall, which receives your anonymous account id, basic device information, which screens you saw and the purchase or restore events from those screens. We use this to run the offer, check that purchases work, and compare versions of the subscription screen.
Analytics and logs
DayTone records events such as “alarm saved”, “song delivered” or “subscription started”, with ids, durations and error categories, linked to your anonymous account id. Our analytics provider, PostHog, also receives basic device and app information (model, iOS version, app version, language) and the IP address of your connection, which it uses to estimate an approximate location such as country and city. We use this to understand how DayTone is used, find problems and decide what to improve.
Lyrics, labels, goals, calendar titles and health data are never written to logs or analytics.
This website also uses PostHog to count visits: the pages you view, the links and buttons you click, the page that sent you here, and your browser, device type and approximate location from your IP address. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so we can’t recognise you from one visit to the next, and it doesn’t record your screen.
Who processes it
We share data only with the service providers that run DayTone for us, each limited to its job:
- Google Cloud and Firebase: servers, database, file storage, anonymous sign-in, and push notifications.
- Anthropic: drafts the lyrics.
- Google (Lyria on Vertex AI): generates the music.
- Apple: App Store payments, Sign in with Apple, and push notification delivery.
- Superwall: subscription screens and purchase events.
- PostHog: product analytics.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or to a successor if DayTone is sold or merged, in which case this policy continues to apply.
How long it’s kept
Songs and their lyrics are kept for as long as you use DayTone within its terms of use:
- Songs made on the Free plan: up to one year after they were made.
- Songs made while you subscribe to DayTone Plus: for as long as you stay subscribed, then up to one year after your subscription ends.
Your goals, boundaries and alarm settings are kept until you change them or delete your account. Analytics events are kept by PostHog under its standard retention. Deleting your account deletes the data we hold straight away, whatever the periods above. Apple keeps its own purchase records under its own policy.
Your choices
- Turn calendar signals off at any time in You › Motivation sources. That stops their use and deletes what was derived from them.
- Edit or clear your goals and boundaries at any time in the app.
- Deleting an alarm cancels any song still being made for it.
- Turn off notifications in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Delete your account and data at any time in Settings › Delete account & data. This doesn’t cancel a subscription: do that in your iPhone’s Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. We don’t sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Because DayTone has no email or name on file, the quickest way to delete everything is in the app; for any other request, email [email protected]. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where EU or UK law applies, we rely on our contract with you to make and deliver your songs, on your consent for calendar signals and notifications, and on our legitimate interests for analytics, security and improving DayTone.
Security and transfers
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with our providers, who protect it with industry-standard measures. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us if you find a problem. DayTone is run from the United States, so your data is processed there and wherever our providers operate, using the safeguards those providers offer for international transfers.
Children
DayTone is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used it, contact us and we’ll delete the data.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we’ll tell you in the app about significant changes.
